Another Flinders Trip done and dusted. 5 days of wilderness and wildlife fun and friendships and of course learning. I had 3 beginners on this trip which was a challenge for me with plenty of locations on offer to practice settings and compositions and plenty of time to go for a walk and find niche shots and just enjoy the surroundings. The wildlife is plentiful in the Flinders if your a wildlife chaser and there are ample opportunities for emus and several types of kangaroos and wallabies as well as birds of all descriptions.

We worked in all types of light as I believe its crucial to understand all types of lighting not just the golden hour (soft even light). I work with backlight all the time out here which is one of my favourite types of light to shoot in when I can. Its challenging light and you really need to understand your camera’s settings to expose correctly using this type of light. I do not get too technical when explaining things and talk in lamens terms so you have the best chance for the penny to drop quickly and acheive good results. Composition is also crucial and I continually point out things that I am seeing when out and about as well as encourage people to show me what they are seeing and help them tighten compositons througout the tour. 

We had alot of laughs, some crazy banter and just genarally had a great time out. Sure there is frustration when something does not work or you miss the shot because your not quite there yet but thats just part of the process of learning and very normal. Even if your well versed in photography you can still learn from others and I often pick up things from participants, whether its gear or software related or a processing style I always keep an open mind.
